  • How to report tip income and instructions for completing Form 4137 Social Security & Medicare Tax on Unreported Tip Income
  • How to report interest income including ordinary interest, US bond interest and tax-exempt interest

  • Instructions for preparing Schedule B
  • How to report nominee distributions
  • Taxability of alimony and child support payments
  • Reporting K-1 Income from Partnerships, S-Corporations, Trusts & Estates

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Understand how and where to report income from wages & tips
  • Know how to identify and report various types of interest and dividend income
  • Determine taxable alimony
  • Understand Schedule K-1 and how to report income received from Partnerships, S-Corporations, Estates and Trusts
  • Identify and report various types of miscellaneous income on Line 21 of Form 1040.

Self-paced online students access course materials utilizing the School's Learning Management System (LMS).  The LMS is an online system which can be accessed by students at any time from any computer connected to high-speed internet.  Students completing this course will use the LMS to:

  1. Open and print course manuals, tests, test answer keys, and IRS forms.
  2. Watch a recording of a lecture provided by one of Pacific Northwest Tax School's skilled instructors. 
  3. Complete classwork, homework, and quiz assignments.
  4. Print a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the course.
  5. Access the Q&A Forum to post questions and receive answers from course instructors about topics and assignments included with this course.

The interactive structure of this course combines the best elements of a live class with the convenience of allowing students to work at their own pace.

Students will watch a video-recording of a lecture provided by one of Pacific Northwest Tax School's skilled instructors.  Claswork time is provided for students to apply concepts covered in class to sample tax forms.

 

To successfully complete this course, students must watch the lecture video and successfully complete all tests with a score of 70% or higher.  Course materials provided to students include a detailed Student Manual, quizzes, and classwork, quiz, and homework answer keys.

 

Advance Preparation Required (for Self-Paced Online Students)

Our online Learning Management System (LMS) is easy and fun to use however first-time users of our online education programs should devote not less than one half hour to reading our Student LMS User Manual prior to beginning a course.

Our LMS education platform requires an up-to-date Adobe Flash® Player and use of a high-speed internet connection.  To ensure your learning experience is worthwhile and productive we ask all students to take the time to become familiar with our education platforms before attending class.

Prerequisites & Advance Preparation

Students intending to write the Oregon State Tax Exam, must be at least 18 years of age, and have High School Diploma or GED. Students using our self-paced internet based program should prepare for classes by downloading and printing course materials.
