The IRS offers an extensive array of tax credits. All credits are subject to varying restrictions and may be dependent upon filing status, gross income and other limiting factors.

Learning Objectives

Classwork assignments provide opportunities for students to apply concepts covered in class to sample tax forms including Forms 5405, 8863 and 8880.

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Understand the difference between a refundable and nonrefundable credit
  • Understand the Retirement Savings Contribution Credit
  • Understand Mortgage Interest and foreign tax credits
  • Understand the different Education Credits
  • Be familiar with credits available for energy conservation improvements & devices
  • Know when and how to recapture the First-Time-Homebuyer's Credit

Format Delivery

Students will attend a group live lecture provided by one of Pacific Northwest Tax School's skilled instructors in our Portland classroom located at 13405 NW Cornell Rd.

Group classwork time is provided for students to complete quizzes which apply concepts covered in class to sample tax situations.

Course materials provided to students include a detailed Student Manual, quizzes, and quiz answer keys.
