This is the second of 4 sessions covering California Tax Law.

This course covers:

  • California conformity to federal law
  • California additions and subtractions
  • California adjustments to income
  • California itemized deductions
  • An in-depth study of California Form 540 and Schedule CA (540)

Learning Objectives

Classwork is provided to give students the opportuntiy to apply concepts learned in class to the preparation of California Form 540 and Schedule CA (540).  Class finishes up with a quiz to test student's understanding of knowledge area covered in the class.

Course materials provided to students include a detailed Student Manual, classwork answer keys, quiz and quiz answer key.

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Know the layout of California Form 540 and Schedule CA (540)
  • Be familiar with common adjustments made in figuring California income
  • Know how to figure California itemized deductions
  • Be aware of conformity issues between federal and California Law

Format Delivery

The interactive structure of this course combines the best elements of a live class with the convenience of allowing students to work at their own pace. Students will watch a video-recording of a lecture provided by one of Pacific Northwest Tax School's skilled instructors.

To successfully complete this course, students must watch the lecture video and successfully complete all tests with a score of 70% or higher.

A Q&A Forum is provided in the LMS for this course. Self-paced Online students may use the Q&A Forum to post questions and receive answers from course instructors about topics and assignments included with this course.

 

Advance Preparation Required (for Self-Paced Online Students)

Our online Learning Management System (LMS) is easy and fun to use however first-time users of our online education programs should devote not less than one half hour to reading our Student LMS User Manual prior to beginning a course.

Basic Tax Law

Students taking any Basic Tax Law course, agree to comply with all Terms of Enrollment outlined the enrollment agreement form for that course, which can be found on our Enrollment Forms page.

 

Prerequisites & Advance Preparation

Students intending to write the Oregon State Tax Exam, must be at least 18 years of age, and have High School Diploma or GED. Students using our self-paced internet based program should prepare for classes by downloading and printing course materials.
